If you are looking for a mental health break, this is IT!!! Fort Payne and Mentone Alabama is the best kept secret ever (Imagine Mayberry on top of a mountain)! It was a 4.5 hour drive(all interstate) from Jackson, MS. If you love waterfalls, peace and quiet, nice, down to earth, friendly people, you have got to visit the Fort Payne/Mentone, Alabama area! If you want to stay in the BEST accommodations ever, stay with General Joe and Channelle. I have stayed in people's homes (VRBO, Airbnb, ect) in the Turks and Caicos, Montana, Tennessee, Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, Texas and Alabama- but I have never felt more "catered to" than I did on our two night stay at their cottage. These two truly have the gift of hospitality. I guess this is where I should mention that we arrived a full MONTH early to our reservation- and they were able to create a beautiful place for us in under two hours on their own private property! They could've just said "oh well, you looked at the calendar wrong, so get a motel room" , but no. They went out of their way to provide the perfect place for us! When we arrived, we were greeted by a Retired Four-Star General and a former aide to Ronald Reagan, who carried our bags, provided an umbrella and flashlight, and helped us settle in for the night. Their "spur of the moment" cottage was AMAZING! It was like a large tiny home with all the amenities- marble everywhere, large shower, high end appliances, stylish decor, comfortable furniture. And she (Chanelle is a wonderful interior designer) wasn't even finished decorating it. The refrigerator was stocked with water, there was fresh fruit in a bowl with snack bars and chocolate. There were books to read, and a nice tv (we never even turned it on). We spent two wonderful nights in this valley, enjoying the views of Lookout Mountain, spending our days and evenings in Mentone, Fort Payne, and surrounding areas (never more than 15 minutes from our cottage). Before we left, we were invited to coffee and a tour of the owner's home (soon to be a B and B). I can't even begin to tell you how beautiful their home is. So I will stop here, and say that we loved the people and area so much that we kept our reservations for next month (at Eagle's Perch) and will hopefully get to visit again with our new friends (that feel like family)in Fort Payne. The Neighborhood: The cottage is located on the property of the private home of the Cosumano's, owners of Mentone Vacation Lodging. 90% of the time, the pool will be available to just Creole Cottage guests. If the Cosumano's have visitors, the pool will be opened to them between 9:30 am - 8pm in the summer months. The pool is opened May 1 - Oct. 30 or weather permitting. My home had 3 levels deck 1. Deck you sit and read a book and enjoy some music. Deck 2, you can sit out a early coffee or some breakfast over look the beautiful view Deck 3 is where you can enjoy a movie , your Football team and grill you delicious meal and just sit back and relax . Hot tub and porch swing facing the largest registered white oak tree trunk in the state. (22' radius) No parties or glitter allowed.

Great 3br/2 bath Lakehouse on the water on beautiful Lake Guntersville. Perfect for fishing tournaments, vacationers, and duck hunters! Home is located approx. 1/4 mile from boat ramp. Boat dock has electricty. Large deck overlooking large backyard. Volleyball net in back yard...bring your own ball! Perfect for playing sports like football or baseball. Fire Pit by water is perfect for building a bon fire. We do have a natural spring that runs off the mountain to our back yard. If we have had a lot of rain you may want to throw in a pair of old shoes as it can get pretty muddy. You can fish from the dock. Water level usually between 4-6 feet. We are a great fishing lake and tend to have milfoil around the dock which makes the fishing even better. No diving as water level can vary!! Home is ranch style. Master bedroom has King bed. Bedroom two has two twin beds and a trundle. Bedroom 3 has two twins. Fully furnished kitchen. Full size washer and dryer. Microwave, Keurig coffee maker, brand new Webber gas grill. Locked storage space available if needed on property. Wal-mart approximately 5 minutes away. Small country store with bait and firewood approx. 1/4 mile by boat ramp.
